CHAPTER 2- FLAMED UP

Kemuel rushed into the room where Ingrid was being kept. She had been admitted into the private wing of the St. Anne's hospital and was being heavily guarded. Every turn you took saw at least two bodyguards on duty.

Her family  was filthy rich and didn't leave any stone unturned in making sure that the safety of their daughter was a surety. Kemuel took one look at the pale figure on the bed and rushed to her side.
How had things gotten this bad? He couldn't help but wonder.

She looked so peaceful lying there on the bed. He took her hands in his and gently stroked her cheeks.  She blinked open her eyes and slowly turned to face him.

'Kemuel, what happened? '

Kemuel moved closer and hugged her tight.  It was such a relief to see her awake and hear her speak again.

He sighed. ' You were attacked at home some days ago.'

She started to shake uncontrollably almost immediately as images of that night came rushing back. Kemuel screamed for the doctor, who came rushing in.
One look at the patient and he sprang into action. He called in some nurses and together they held Ingrid down firmly as a sedative was administered to her.

Within minutes, she was fast asleep and breathing gently. Kemuel looked anything but relieved.

'Will she be fine? '

The doctor picked up a chart and scanned through.
' She should be ,but we will be sure of that when she wakes up.
Kemuel sank back into the chair he had vacated some minutes earlier.

The doctor walked to the door and paused. He turned to stare at the slumped figure in the chair. He smiled. A sad knowing smile. He had witnessed this scene one too many times and he knew it was only a matter of time before all this ended.

It was what he was paid to do. It had been disgusting at first but he had grown to love his job. It was babaric, that was even an understatement of the millennium.
As the years drew on he had lost his conscience.

Losing his license to practice had been a big blow to him and more so because he didn't deserve it. He had lost his family, his home and everything that ever mattered to him.

Then they had offered him a job and the pay was good too. It was better than what he would have ever earned in a lifetime. He just wasn't comfortable with what they asked him to do. At first he was hesitant but as time went on he grew to love the job. He knew how this was going to end.

'Sir,' the doctor begun, i think it's best if you go home now. She won't be waking up anytime soon.
Kemuel didn't even stir.

'I'll stay. '

'Very well then.' He turned and walked out of the door closing it gently behind him.

Kemuel slowly lifted up his head. It was all his fault. He knew exactly what he had gotten himself into and he knew as well what he had signed up for.

Now he was way in over his head and he had dragged Ingrid into this mess. He turned just in time to see a shadow disappear from behind the window.
He slowly rose from his seat and cast a quick glance at the guards expecting a reaction but they seemed quite unperturbed.

He walked to the window and looked out. No one. He wa was probably being paranoid.
Turning to walk back to his seat, something caught his eye and he looked out through the window again. He nearly fainted.

'My God...' He uttered in sheer disbelieve.

He hadn't been dreaming. Someone had been there. Someone dangerous and someone he knew.

He opened the window and bent out to pick up the paper cut out in the shape of a burning flame.

Turning it around, he was expecting what he saw. He had delivered this  kind of message himself many times before.
It simply read FLEE.
He shuddered.

Immediately Kemuel told me what had happened I knew instinctively Ingrid wasn't safe here.
These people were dangerous and no matter how tight the security was, I had no doubt there was an insider. Someone was in the facility. One of them.

Plus I didn't trust Kemuel. I had a lot on him but he didn't know. How could he watch them do this to Ingrid? I knew about his dealings and the mess he had gotten all of us into. I sighed.

I immediately arranged for her to be sent somewhere safe. Somewhere only I and those who worked for me knew about.
Kemuel wasn't exactly pleased but I wasn't exactly happy with him either . The only thing stopping me from putting a bullet through his head right now was because of Ingrid.

So that was it. I had her moved.
It took just two weeks. She fully recovered and we spoke extensively while she was with me. I gathered all I could from her and when I was sure she had told me all she knew, I sent her home.

But before, I warned her not to trust anyone. Not me, her friends, family or even Kemuel. Emphasis on him. I made her understand how important it was that she spoke to no one about this as her life depended on it.
She gave me her word and I believed her.
Then, I sent her home...(to be continued πŸ˜€)
