Abigail put her phone away and looked at her watch to check the time.  She switched her gaze to look at Eloise and found her staring intently at her.

"Jesus! " she nearly screamed... "when had she woken up and how much of the conversation with her father had she heard? "....
And now... Today's chapter! 😁

Chapter 12

Loise could not believe her ears. Who would have ever thought that an angel of Abigail was not really all she claimed to be? From the little that she had heard, she didn’t need anyone to tell her this lady was up to no good and from the look of things, her family looked like they were in on whatever plan that was to ruin Phylls’s life.

The problem now was finding out what exactly they had up their sleeves. Well she'd figure that out later but for now, she had to find a way of making Abigail believe she had heard nothing.
As Abigail stared at her, she began to shake uncontrollably and her heart rate monitor began beeping at an alarming rate.

Abigail was becoming increasingly alarmed and she sincerely hoped it wasn’t her call that sparked off the convulsion. She immediately screamed for the doctor and within seconds DR. Obeng had arrived. One look at Loise and she rushed to her side.
‘What in heaven’s name happened here?’ she asked in frustration. Loise was in a very stable condition when I left and that was a few minutes ago.

Abigail was suddenly very clueless and speechless. ‘I don’t…. I can’t really tell…she was…I mean…all of a sudden…’
‘Young lady,’ Dr. Obeng started, ‘You better get straight to the point would you? What sparked this?’
‘Dr Obeng, I’m afraid this has happened before,’ Phyll said from the doorway.
Abigail turned around startled. When had he come back from getting her the food she had requested?

‘What do you mean exactly?’ Dr Obeng quizzed sceptically. ‘Your fiancΓ©e here was the only one in the room with Loise and she can tell what exactly had happened.’
By this time, Loise had been stabilized.
Phyll walked to the doctor. ‘Can we talk in your office?’
The doctor nodded and they walked out of the hospital room specially reserved for Lois.

Before closing the door behind him, Phyll looked back at Lois and without hiding any emotion said to Abigail, ‘Please take care of her. I’ll be back soon.’
With that he closed the door behind him and followed the doctor to her office.
Abigail bit at her nails nervously. Just how much had Eloise heard? She wondered. She had to find out exactly what that…that…that…, she didn’t even know what to call her, had heard. Abigail was suddenly so frustrated and scared all at once.

If it so happened that Lois had heard even a tiny fraction of her conversation with her dad, things were bound to fall apart.

As she sat there pondering on what her next move should be, Phyll walked in and almost immediately Loise opened her eyes
Phyll rushed to her side and gently put a strand of her hair that had fallen over her eyes, behind her left ear.

He didn’t mind that Abigail was around. In fact, the knowledge that he had nearly lost Lois had finally convinced him he could never marry another. He loved her way too much to lose her.
Lois looked around her in obvious confusion.

‘Where am I? Lois asked barely audibly. She tried moving but ended up wincing in so much pain.
Phyll moved closer to her. ‘Silk…hey…its okay….shhhh….you’ll be fine…’ He gently stroked her hair and when she had visibly relaxed, he told her what she had wanted to know.

‘You were involved in an accident…a very bad one at that, but your prognosis is good. You’ll be fine.’
Lois smiled and even that hurt badly. She looked around and saw Abigail standing at the door, looking detached. She motioned for Abigail to come closer and when she did, she squeezed her hand just so Abigail will realise she had no reason to be scared.

Abigail visibly calmed down after which she proceeded to ask Lois how she was feeling. Lois just smiled to show she was okay as any movement just brought intense pain.
After this exchange, Phyll decided to finally get home and freshen up so he could quickly get back to Lois’s bedside.

He told Abigail as such and left. Abigail decided to stay by Lois until Phyll got back. She had to be sure Loise had heard nothing of the conversation that had transpired between her dad and her.
Some few minutes after Phyll had left she moved closer to Lois bedside and smiled at her. Lois was still awake.

‘Lois,’ Abigail began, ‘I was wondering, do you remember anything from what happened within the past few hours?’
Lois coughed. ‘All….all…I remember is wak…waking up to see…Phyll staring intently at me.’ She looked thoughtful all of a sudden. Is there anything else I’m supposed to remember?’

Abigail was suddenly relieved and heaved a big sigh. ‘Oh not at all. Just get some rest. We will talk when you are well.’
Lois smiled and closed her eyes. Abigail looked at her and silently thanked her stars. There was nothing to worry about.

They say there is a language in the way we treat people and all we have to do is really listen. Phyll was the perfect epitome of this, in the way he treated Lois when she was indisposed until she had recovered beautifully. The way he had cared for her said it all. No soothsayer was needed. It was very obvious he loved her.

Abigail had witnessed all this but it hadn’t deterred her. The wedding was going to come on at all cost. She knew very well Phyll loved Lois but she wasn’t going to let Phyll go just like that.

Well, today was their wedding rehearsal and Eloise was yet to meet her elder brother Grant. Phyll had two best men as she, had two bridesmaids as well. Abigail could not help but smile. Everything was going as planned.

Well, except Grant’s late arrival as he was delaying the wedding rehearsal. One would have thought he would have let go of his tardy attitude some years ago. Grant just never ceased to disappoint.
Just when Abigail was about to ask that the rehearsal begin without Grant, he did them the courtesy of arriving and as usual he made a grand entry.

Lois had been to use the washroom then and had not witnessed Grant’s entry. However, as she was returning she bumped into him and splashed his glass of wine on his neatly starched white cotton shirt.
‘I’m so sorry…. I didn’t mean to…ow God I’m such a klutz…’ Lois said in such a frenzied haste as she tried to wipe the stain of with her handkerchief.

Watching from afar, Phyll couldn’t help but laugh as he remembered that night Lois had met up with him. She had that same look now.
Grant took hold of her hand as she was trying to get the stain of and that was when Lois looked up at him.

Almost immediately, the look of embarrassment was replaced by confusion, shock and finally recognition. Lois began to scream hysterically and shake violently as she tore at Grant’s chest which caused him to take a step back. He looked completely shaken and white as a ghost and inadvertently dropped his glass.

Phyll, remembering this scene from years back, immediately rushed to her side. He held her so close, hugging her and whispering soothing words into her ears, willing her to calm down. Finally she did,but was still unconscious. She looked so small and vulnerable in his arms Phyll made a silent vow there and then, he wasn’t ever going to leave her.

‘Start the engine. We are sending her to the hospital.’ Phyll said to his driver. With that he carried her gently to the entrance of the chapel waiting for the driver to pull over.
As he passed by Grant he stopped. He looked at him with pure anger in his eyes. ‘I hope you have a good explanation for this.’
When the driver pulled over, he put Eloise gently in the car and they drove off to the hospital.
