Now here's where we left off last week :

"Nothing had seemed out of the ordinary.
I don't know what had happened, but I do know one thing.
Blood had been there that night. He had been, and Grid was all the motivation he needed to show his face and yet somehow he hadn't.
Something had held him back. I knew that for sure. I didn't know what but I was going to find out..."

And now, today's chapter! ...

CHAPTER 6 - LETTING GO

Grid couldn't explain what exactly was happening to her. The past few weeks had taken a nasty toll on her and she hadn't begun to experience the effects until now.
She thought she had overcome the  traumatic encounter but she couldn't have been more wrong.

She looked like a ghost now and always had this distant look in her eyes.
It was almost as if she was living outside her body and watching herself live. It felt that way most at times of late. She was losing herself and she was totally helpless. She knew she needed help but from where? The shrinks hadn't helped and she didn't know where or who else to turn to.

All her parents wealth, had done nothing to mitigate the aftermath of all these problems. They had never had time for both her and her brother anyway. It was always business, and how to make more money. She guessed, that, to them, money meant happiness, and they thought the more they provided it, the happier their children would be.

How wrong they had been. The one thing Grid and her brother ever wanted, was the love and affection of their parents and even that, they didn't get.
Grid could have died and they'd care less. I mean, they got over the death of their only son in less than a day and went back to being the money making machines that they were. They didn't even have the decency to be present at Mike's funeral all thanks to an urgent business meeting. Even that could not be overlooked. That was how important their own children were to them.
Grid was furious now. She had never felt this hurt and betrayed. What had she ever done wrong.

And then, there was Esme.
She had come into her life, and had treated her like she mattered. For once. Esme had shown her the love she had never experienced.
Not that she could even compare it to any other person's love. There was no one. Now, she had left her in her most trying moments and without a reason at that. Grid was alone again.

It had been several weeks after Esme's announcement, and she hadn't heard anything from her.
Grid called, texted, and Esme never bothered to get in touch but not a day passed without her trying to get in touch. The few times Esme actually picked her calls or replied, she was very curt with her answers, making the conversation very forced and unpleasant.

She really missed Esme, but she realised that at the rate she was going, she was making Esme feel as if she, Grid couldn't live without her. This was way difficult than she thought. She just wanted her bestfriend back. She was even beginning to wonder how on earth anyone could hurt so badly?
Grid's phone rang.

The ID read Essmmy
She looked twice to be sure.
Her eyes weren't deceiving her.
Her eyes weren't deceiving her. It was Esme alright.
She didn't want to appear desperate so she waited a while before picking the call.

'Esme?'
No response.
'Esme?'

All Grid could here was sniffing in the background. Then she realised Esme had been crying. Immediately, she became sympathetic.

'Esme, what's wrong? '

Between sobs Esme told Grid how the guy she been dating behind her parents back had broken up with her.
Frankly, Grid was anything but bothered. She knew Esme had it coming and had warned her, but she wouldn't listen. She was too much in love and she could care less. Now she was hurt and I was the first person she had run to.

Grid sighed. 'Esme, look just calm down okay. He was wasn't worth your love anyway. I know you probably hate to hear it but we both know he was with you because of your money. Look, ...'
Then Grid heard the beeping of the dial tone.

'What the..... .'

Esme had hang up on her. She stared at phone in disbelieve.
Grid called back anyway.
Esme picked and was still weeping. All Grid wanted Esme to know was that she was there for her.

They stayed like that on the phone, when finally Esme asked her to hang up and that she didn't want to talk.
Grid had had it. She just told Esme she'd be there if she wanted to talk and hang up.
She understood that Esme was hurt and all, but that was no way to treat a friend. Even after all that had happened, she had been there for Esme when she needed her.
Grid suddenly realised something. It had been staring at her right in the face.

Esme knew when it came to her, Grid was very vulnerable. Esme knew that, and had used it against Grid. She knew Grid would do whatever she, Esme asked because Grid still loved her as a sister.
My God.

She couldn't believe Esme had used her vulnerability against her.
Thinking about it, she realised this hadn't been the first time. She was just too intent on doing anything for Esme, that she had failed to acknowledge the truth.

Grid slapped her forehead as she realised she had also been in denial. Grid expected to feel angry but she was just disappointed and sad. She was too sad to even feel angry. She sighed and stood. Grid was at crossroads and she took a difficult decision. She now knew it was inevitable. She had to let go because it was the only way out of this misery.

She felt the usual sting of tears and before long, they coursed down her cheeks. She didn't bother to wipe them away. Crying was going to do her some good.
Why did she have to lose everyone she ever loved?

Kemuel came to her mind and that set her thinking. He loved her, that much was obvious, at least he acted like it and made sure she knew it.She couldn't say same here.
She had dated him just to spite her parents because they never approved of him from the beginning and it was quite unusual since they never complained about who her brother and her hang out with. She had never really understood their dislike for him at all.

Well, she had grown to like him, but she just couldn't bring herself to that point where she could say without any doubt that she loved him. There was something odd about him and it was ominous. Really was. She had begun to sense it, and lately that feeling had become more intense.

She had brushed it of and thought it was alll because she was paranoid but now she wasn't so sure anymore. Well, she wasn't going to pretend anymore. Grid wasn't going to lead him on. She needed to find herself and to do that she needed to let everyone and everything go.No matter how difficult it was going to be, she had to do it. She couldn't trust anyone now. At least, that's one thing she and Shady agreed on.
Shady.

Another intriguing person. Well, maybe he'd be the only one she will let stick around. She shook her head. This wasn't the time. She'd think about Him and his oddities when all this was done.
She had made her decision and there was no going back. She stared at her image in the full length mirror and smiled sadly.
She walked to her desk and picked up, one after the other, each of the four framed photographs on the desk.

One was of her brother, another, Esme and her, another of Kemuel and the last, of Shady. She put all of them back just as they had been. Looking at those photographs, the hurts and betrayals came rushing back.
She placed two of them face down. The one of her and Esme. As well as that of Kemuel.

With that, she turned and walked out of her room. She called her chauffeur and had him prepare the car. She was taking the first step amd that was a trip to Kemuel's place. She wasn't sure of the outcome but it was a necessary evil. The journey to finding herself had begun. She had no idea about what she was going to discover but she had to do this. But first she had to let go...(see ya next week πŸ˜‰)
