                        CHAPTER 15 Pt 2

Phyll stood silently behind the door that opened into Eloise’s room for a while before entering. He honestly didn’t know what to expect. She had never really opened up to him about whatever the reason was for her seizures and he was at loss as to how to even approach her.

Eloise opened her eyes when she realized Phyll was by her bedside. She stared at him for a while and suddenly began to weep. Instinctively, Phyll hugged her tight and they stayed like that for ten minutes.
She calmed down for a while and looked straight into his eyes.

‘Phyll, there is something you need to know.’
With that she told him about that gruesome experience when she was just a little girl.
Phyll was shocked beyond words. He stared at Eloise and suddenly everything begun to fall into place. He put two and two together and he shook his head in disbelieve.

‘No…no…no…no…this couldn’t be’ Phyll said and begun pacing up and down.
Eloise looked very confused. ‘What do you mean Phyll?’
Phyll suddenly looked very excited.
He moved to sit by Eloise’s bedside and with that he told her the story of his dad’s death and the link between Abigail’s family and Fiifi Blankson as well.

‘This can’t be a coincidence.’ Eloise mused.
‘Then what do you call this?’
Phyll sat down in a pensive mood. ‘We have to figure out a way to bring Abigail’s Dad and Grant to book but how?’
The door to Eloise’s hospital room suddenly opened and a new doctor walked in.

He walked straight to Phyll and offered his hand for a handshake and for a moment Phyll was confused.
‘It’s a pleasure to finally meet you, Mr Dwomoh. ’ With that, realization dawned on Phyll.
Only one person called him by that name and he was momentarily thrown aback.
The new doctor proceeded to introduce himself but Phyll stopped him.

‘I know who you are.’
Phyll looked at Eloise and told her he’d explain everything to her later. She however shook her head in recognition signifying the fact that she had figured out who he was.

With that the new doctor proceeded to speak to the two of them but immediately Abigail and family burst into the room.
Eloise couldn’t help but roll her eyes at Abigail’s exaggerated show of concern.
‘You know what, I just want to be left alone. All of you should please leave.’ She proceeded to smile sweetly and innocently at Abigail.

‘Can Phyll please stay for a while? I promise I won’t keep him for long.’
Abigail had no option but to agree.
It was then that Grant noticed the presence of the new doctor.
‘Who are you?’ Grant asked with disrespect.
‘Pardon my manners. I’m Eloise’s new doctor.’ He walked to Abigail’s father and laid one hand on his shoulder while extending the other in a handshake.

Abigail’s dad suddenly had this feeling of impending doom after shaking the doctor’s hand and the sinister smile that played on the doctor’s lips was enough to send him thinking.
His premonitions were always right and this time he was certain something was terribly wrong.

‘Now if you will excuse me, I have to attend to Lady Eloise here.’ With that the whole family was escorted out of the room.
After everyone had left, the doctor moved closer to the two. ‘Ok, we have to act fast. This is what I had in mind.’
And he proceeded to fill them in on whatever plan that was to be executed.

                ***the wedding***

Phyll couldn’t believe he was about to tie the knot with Abigail. The girl he loved was right behind her and he was about marrying someone else. As he watched her walk down the aisle towards him he suddenly knew this was the greatest mistake he was ever going to make.

She made it to his side at the altar and the wedding proceedings commenced. Now the wedding officiator got to the point where he asked if anyone had anything against the marriage. That person was to speak or forever hold their peace.

Phyll silently prayed someone would just speak up. At this point he was willing to do anything just so he would not marry Abigail. He had had so much hope in the doctor, who happened to be the one and only Fiifi Blankson but it looked like whatever elaborate plan he had cooked up had failed.

He hadn’t seen or heard from him since that day.
Phyll looked in Eloise’s direction as she stood behind his bride and his eyes said it all. In that moment it was just the two of them. No one else mattered.

It was just a minute but in that minute the emotions that was shared between the two was more than anyone could understand. He wanted her to know he was sorry and that she was the only one he loved. He would have given anything to be with her.
Eloise smiled sadly and that moment Phyll knew she understood.

As the minister was about to seal the marriage, the gates to the chapel suddenly burst open and in walked Fiifi with the police not too far behind.
Phyll could not have been happier. He was surprised at the sudden change of circumstance but God knows he was extremely happy at what was happening.

Abigail was suddenly confused and she looked it. Her dad got up from where he was and bellowed. ‘What is the meaning of this?’
Fiifi pointed at James and said to the police, ‘That’s him over there. Arrest him.’
‘Dr., what is the meaning of this?’ James screamed in Anger.

‘That will be Dr. Fiifi Blankson to you.’’
The look on James face moved from shock to recognition and to anger.
‘You…’
‘Yes, it’s me alright. You thought we’d never meet again didn’t you?

All those at the wedding where confused at what was happening and Fiifi ensured that everyone was escorted out of the chapel as he didn’t want any casualties on his hands.

When the chapel was empty, Fiifi proceeded to tell them the full story. That day in the hospital when he shook hands with James, he had planted a listening device on James’ attire. Fortunately for him, James had discussed all the plans he had cooked up with Abigail; plans on taking over Phylls’s empire.

He had remained in the hiding after that because he still needed to gather more evidence on James. Enough that they could put him away.
He had also obtained enough evidence on Grants’ abuse and he needed Eloise to testify against Grant. It was then that Grant realized Eloise was the lady he had raped some years ago.

Eloise looked at Grant and shook her head. He had actually forgotten. I mean, how wicked could anyone be?
Eloise quickly agreed to it.
The Police put both Father and son in handcuffs as well as Abigail as she had played a part as an accomplice.

As they were being led away, Fiifi smiled. He was finally at peace with himself. Phyll run to hug Eloise and the two stayed like that for a while.
James however was not going down without a fight. He quickly used his elbow to jab the officer closest to him in the stomach, pulled out his gun from the holster, and shot in Phylls’s’ direction.

Unfortunately Eloise took the bullet as she had her back directly facing James. The bullet hit her square in the neck just beneath her carotid artery and caused a slight rapture to it. That however did not stop the bleeding that followed.
The police quickly whisked the family away after the shot.

As she collapsed in his arms, Phyll screamed.
‘Call an ambulance!’ he managed to stutter.
He knelt down beside her on the floor as blood oozed rapidly from her neck. She was fast losing consciousness.
Phyll was beyond consolable. Just when he thought he would be together with Eloise this had to happen.

He was weeping uncontrollably. ‘Eloise, please stay with me. I love you. Always have and always will.’
Eloise opened her eyes and Phyll looked deep into them. She couldn’t speak but he knew all she wanted to say.

A thought suddenly occurred to Phyll and he called the officiating minister in from outside, where everyone was still waiting to see the turn of events.
Looking at how things were going he knew she would not make it and he was determined to seal his love for her by making her his wife. She was the only one he would ever love.

He whispered amidst tears to Eloise, ‘Please just blink if you mean yes, okay?’
‘Eloise Obeng, would you do me the honours of being my wife? I promise to love you like you’ve never been loved before. I promise to protect you from all that would ever hurt you. I promise to be your knight in shining armour and to always be by your side….Eloise I promise to love you with every fibre left in me. And so I ask, would you marry me?’

By this time Eloise was almost unconscious but when tears started streaming down her cheeks, PHYLL knew she had heard him. She squeezed his hands ever so slightly and gently opened her eyes. She blinked once. And with every ounce of strength she had left, she whispered, ‘I will.’
By now everyone present had tears in their eyes.

The priest went ahead to seal the marriage.
‘I now pronounce you Husband and wife.’
With that Phyll wept like a baby and hugged Eloise closer, not even showing the least bit of concern about the blood that was staining his wedding suit.
Eloise opened her eyes and with a final gasp whispered to Phyll.
‘I love you.’
With that she went limp in his arms.
Phyll screamed and passed out right beside her.

               ****5 years later****

Phillip Dwomoh stared at the tombstone and gently placed the bouquet of flowers he had brought along, on it. The name read, Eloise Dwomoh.

He missed her terribly and though he knew he would never see her again, he had learned to live with the pain and the thought of never seeing her again. Five years had done nothing to mitigate all the pain he still felt from losing her.

His hands involuntary went to his ring and he gently squeezed that spot on his finger. He never took it off and he doubted he ever will.
He smiled sadly and turned to walk away. His daily visit had ended.
However, there was one thing that would forever remain true.
Eloise was eternally etched in his heart....
