"Well... What if I told you that someone very close to you murdered your father that night as well his colleague Kumi and later made it look like both were involved in an accident? "

A sudden deep silence creeped into the hospital as Phyll processed the life-altering piece of information he had received...."

And now,  today's chapter...Happy Reading! πŸ˜‰πŸ™Œ

                             Chapter 14

                       *fifteen years ago*

Newman corporation was the umbrella term for a long chain of stores all over the country. There was the Newman Pharmaceuticals, the Newman Electronics, Newman Unisex Boutique, Newman Mall; you name it and Newman had it.

This vast dynasty was owned by Mr. Adusei Newman – Blankson and building this empire hadn’t come easy. It was by dint of hard work and a will to succeed against all odds. Looking at what he had to go through, the struggles, the rejections and all the discouragement he had encountered, he had vowed that none of his children will have anything handed over to them on a silver platter.

They would have to work for everything they’d ever own. Of course he was going to take care of them, make sure they had the best of education, in fact the best of everything life had to offer but they will have to make a life for themselves and not live of his glory. This had caused him to have Newman removed from his name such that none except his wife and Mr. Kwaw knew that he owned all that he did.

He had therefore taken up the position of the chief operations officer and had left the presidential position to Mr. Obed Kwaw who was doing a good job by the way. He just was a figurehead but worked hand in hand with Adusei and things were moving smoothly for this company.

Mr. Blankson’s plan had always been to be a benefactor to someone who deserved it. That was how his success had began anyways. He said a silent prayer for the soul of his benefactor who had passed some years back. He remembered how he had worked as a truck pusher, kayaye, car washer; you name and he had done it. This was after his Dad had eloped with a lady he had been having an affair with and his mum passed shortly after, as she hadn’t been able to deal with the hurt and shame.

Being an only child, he had to fend for himself as no family member of his was also willing to extend a helping hand. When he therefore got a job as a manservant in the home of Dr. Kwame Owusu, he gave it his all. He rose to be the butler in the home and finally was put in charge of all the servants in the house.

As time went on Dr. Owusu began to trust him more and began discussing and sharing business ideas with him. Adusei had had a little education and had taken the opportunity to learn all he could anywhere he found himself and had therefore proved his intelligence by the effective and efficient ideas he brought up. Within a short period, Dr. Owusu’s business had grown beyond what anyone could expect and without a doubt he knew he owed half of his current success to Adusei.

Having lost his wife and children in a motor accident some years back, he deemed it fit that he left all his property to Adusei and that was exactly what he had done.
Sitting in his office now, Mr. Blankson was considering Mr. Dwomoh as his successor. The man was very hardworking and reminded him of himself when he was younger. He knew circumstances had caused him to accept a job as a security guard at the main headquarters of Newman Corporation but of course in times such as this, one had to quickly grab any opportunity that came their way.

The passion and seriousness he attached to his job had made the older man grow to like him the more. Mr. Blankson had wished to have offered a better job in any of the other company branches across the country to Mr. Dwomoh as he was beyond qualified but there was no such vacancy.

However, with the decision he had just made he had no doubt he had picked just the right person. He called up his lawyer and drew up a will that very same day, leaving fifty percent of his dynasty to Mr. Dwomoh and the other fifty to his wife and children, which he reasoned was fair.
Mr. Blankson had three children, Fiifi the eldest son, and two ladies.

Fiifi was everything anyone would want in a son and Mr. Blankson was proud of him. Fiifi knew how much his father cherished values such as hardwork, humility, determination and perseverance. As such he had made sure he was never a disappointment. The day he had however chanced on his father’s will and had realised the actual magnitude of his father’s wealth and that his dad was the owner of one of the biggest business organization in the country, he was furious his dad had seen it right to leave half…I mean half of his empire to a total stranger.

 The thought alone was preposterous.
Well, Fiifi could not be blamed. He had no idea about how his dad had struggled and what had led to this decision.
After this discovery, Fiifi began scheming on how he could get Mr. Dwomoh out of the picture. After all if Mr. Dwomoh was no more, all, well if not all, most of the property came to the family.

He knew he was wrong but he consoled himself with the fact that he was doing this for his mum and sisters. He had found out everything he could about Mr. Dwomohs’ work schedule and all that he did. So when the opportunity had presented itself, Fiifi had not let it slip by.

His plan had worked perfectly and Kumi’s activities had only made his plan easier. The plan was to in the long run get Mr. Dwomoh to a meeting point and eliminate him. Contrary to what Mr. Dwomoh was thinking, Fiifi had never made a mistake. He had meant for Mr. Dwomoh to find him and follow him.

With his sense of loyalty to his dad, Fiifi was certain Mr. Dwomoh would do what he did and he hadn’t been wrong.
What Fiifi hadn’t bargained for was the fact that Mr. Dwomoh had contacted Mr Blankson to meet them at the place _wherever it was that they were going. He had also sent him the pictures and turned the GPS of his phone on to enable Mr. Blankson track their movements using Find My Phone *

As such Mr. Blankson was also en route to the meetup site immediately he had recieved the message. This was also after he had alerted the police as well.
Mr. Blankson however had no idea that, that night was to be the night he breathed his last; that he was to die at the hands of his own son.

At the overpass, Fiifi got out of the car and went under the overpass to meet the man who was to carry out the assasination. Mr. Dwomoh followed Fiifi steathily and quietly as a cat but alas, he was doomed to die. He was shot before he could even remeber his own name and with a silly smile spread across his face he drooped to the floor like a sack of potatoes.

Mr Blankson arrived shortly after, with the police, and spotting his son’s car(he hadn't informed the police that the perpetrator was actually his son) , he kew Mr. Dwomoh hadn’t cooked the whole story up. A shootout however ensued and Fiifi had ended up shooting his own dad. He howewer escaped with the assasin he had hired.

After a while, things died down as the police coud not identify the perpertrators of the crime, even though they had the video and photo Mr. Blankson had sent. Actually they didn’t have a picture of Fiifi’s accomplice and the only way they were to get him was through Fiifi who had also vanished. It's like he had just vanished into thin air and had really covered his tracks very well. The case became a dead one at that.

Fiifi’s mum and sisters after realising what Fiifi had done were rather sympathetic to him as they reasoned he had acted out of love for his family. Knowing his whereabouts they opened another account for him and payed huge amounts into it, so he could survive until the police let go of the case. But this wasn’t to last long.

They say Karma is a bitch and well, the assasin had demanded a lot of money, even after he had been paid his cut. After he  realised just how much Fiifi had inherited from his father,he had threatened to go to the police and inform them of his whereabouts, if Fiifi hadn’t paid up. Fiifi did pay up but the assasin wasn’t done yet.

He continued the blackmail until Fiifi knew he had to shut him up. Unfortunately for Fiifi, he had bitten more than he could chew. The assasin had ended up murdering his entire family and had gone on to seek him to kill as well. Fiifi had to therefore flee the country and never return. He had nothing to return to. With no one to run the business, almost all his fathers’ empire had collasped.

                         *Present day*

Phillip Dwomoh had recieved the parcel in the hospital just as the call had ended. He had found hmself a quiet corner in the hospital cafeteria and was seated there quietly pondering on how his life had suddenly turned out to be a chaos.

His driver had picked it up at the office before coming to pick him up to the hospital. Apparently someone had left it there for him the previous day.
The parcel contained a flash drive and on it were an audio file as well as some image files. He requested for his laptop which his driver brought. The audio file had explained all that had happened and the images were those of the assasin and his family now.

He had no doubt the mystery person was Fiifi, wherever he was now, but as to why he was doing this now, he had no idea. Revenge was obviously one reason but what else could be the reason, he pondered.
He proceeded to open the image files and immediately dropped his lower jaw in sheer disbelief.

‘No this couldn’t be true,’ he whispered to himself in shock. He now understood why Fiifi had done what he had done.
Then it all begun to make sense.
After a tip from an online business associate, Phyll had purchased a share in the only remaining Newman branch in the country and though it was worth nothing then, the prospects of growth and expansion were very high.

His benefactor had advised that he quickly purchase it and build it again, giving him tips and guiding him as to how to go about it. Phyll had never met his benefactor but had always thanked God for his life. Gradually, he had worked his ass off with the guidance he got from his angel from above, and had built an entire empire of his own. He was going to reveal as a wedding surprise to everybody.

The businees now had a new name but obviously whoever was after him knew the genesis of Newman Corporation and thought he had a right to the wealth Phyll had painstakingly built from scratch.
Thinking about it, he now knew Fiifi had been the benefactor. He hit his forehead in realization and shock.

At that instant he was called in to see Eloise as she had requested his presence immediately she awoke. She insisted it was utterly necessary she spoke to him that very instant she regained consciousness.

He packed his laptop as well as the package and carried them with him to see Eloise. He got to the room and quickly moved to Eloises’ side.
She whispered barely audibly, ‘There is something I need to tell you.’
Phyll stroked her head gentlly willing her to take her time.

Just then Abigail rushed in, looking flushed and tired. She was quickly followed by her dad, her mum and Grant. They had left the wedding rehearsal to see Eloise as they had all been in shock.
They all looked concerned and Abigail asked the obvious question on their minds.
‘Is she alright?’
Dwomoh turned around which gave Eloise a clear view of her visitors.
Simultaneously, and in shock all they both could say at that moment was,
 ‘You...!"....  (to be continued)
